Getting Started with Wye

Wye splits the end of a rectangular duct into two legs with a single adjustable wye fitting (a "pair of pants") in Autodesk® Revit®. The whole wye is one fitting, and every dimension remains adjustable after it is placed. Watch Demo Videos or read below to understand how to use the tool effectively.

Wye Basic Usage

To add a wye to a duct:

1. Click on the Wye button in the Thermist panel.
2. Click a rectangular duct near the end where the wye should go.
3. Thermist draws a blue preview of the proposed wye at the duct end.
4. Use the window to adjust each leg's width, angle, and bend radius.
5. Confirm to build the wye, or cancel to exit without changes.

Adjusting the Wye

• Each leg has its own Width, Angle, and Radius controls in the confirmation window.
• Width steps in 1" increments. The other leg automatically takes the remainder of the duct width.
• Angle controls how far a leg turns away from the duct. An angle of 0° runs the leg straight off the split.
• Radius controls the bend radius of the leg's elbow.
• The preview updates as you adjust, so you can see the fit before committing.
• Because the wye is a single parametric fitting, you can select it later and flex the same dimensions from its instance parameters.

Tips for Best Results

• Click near the end of the duct where you want the wye. The wye is placed at the closest open end.
• Wye works on rectangular duct. Round and oval ducts are not supported.
• The whole wye builds as one undo step, so a single undo removes it cleanly.
